History

NIS Ltd undertook their first project for Fred Weston Electrical Contractors in the winter of 2014; a CAT5E data and door access installation at Chester University’s High Growth Centre. Since then, NIS and Fred Weston’s have developed a strong business relationship and have continued to work together on several projects across North Wales/Cheshire, carrying out data, fibre, door access and CCTV installations.

One of the most notable projects completed was Coleg Cambria’s new Deeside Sixth building on the Connah’s Quay, where NIS Ltd provided a new CAT6 infrastructure, consisting of approximately 1000 x outlets, with a new OS2 CST fibre link back to the existing College network.

Coleg Cambria – Engineering Technology Centre

Coleg Cambria, one of the highest performing colleges in Wales and one of UK’s largest colleges, would launch a £10m investment project to make way for a new inspirational learning environment for their engineering and construction facilities at Bersham Road. The new construction would provide learners with a 2 story ‘Engineering Technology Centre’, along with refurbishments of existing buildings.The project would make its way through the usual M+E processes, and given their highly competitive pricing, along with the high-quality installation standards shown upon previous projects, Fred Weston’s appointed NIS Ltd as it’s data and security specialist.

Description of Works

The following summarizes the works undertaken;

• – 1 x new 47U data communications cabinet
• – 3 x 24 core OM4 fibre links and 3 x 20 pair voice links to the existing buildings
• – Over 500 x CAT6 data outlets
• – Installation and programming of over 20 x Paxton Wireless doors
• – Installation and programming of approximately 10 x Hikvision CCTV cameras.
• – Installation of 1 x PC and 32” Monitor and Xprotect Software and licenses.
• – Installation of 1 x Hikvision 3 Axis keyboard for PTZ Camera and DVR.
• – Installation of 1 x Hik 16ch NVR.

Blocks B & C Refurbishment

Following completion of the Engineering Technology Centre in August 2018, Coleg Cambria would already be under way with the refurbishment of Block B, with plans in place for Block C’s refurbishment and extension. Fred Weston’s again appointed NIS Ltd as their data specialist to carry out the strip out of the College’s existing CAT5E infrastructure in both Blocks B & C and install a completely new CAT6 infrastructure.

Description of Works

The following summarizes the works undertaken;

Block B: –
– 2 x new 21U data communications cabinets
– Over 150 x CAT6 data outlets
– Strip out of existing CAT5E infrastructure

Block C: –
– 1 x new 29U data communications cabinet
– 1 x new 12U data communications cabinet
– Over 200 x CAT6 data outlets

Implementation

Following contract award, NIS Ltd appointed Project Director Chris Sandison and Project Manager Ewan Shaw to oversee the entire installation. Both Chris and Ewan stay in close contact with Fred Weston’s throughout the project, whilst also attending site meetings with the College’s IT managers and building contractors to ensure client requirements/deadlines were met.
